Brown Mediation

Welcome to Brown Mediation

Barbara Brown has been mediating for over 15 years, focusing on the areas of her substantive legal expertise: business, commercial, real estate, and employment matters.  Since 2006 she has been devoting full time to her mediation practice.

During her 28 years as a litigator she represented both plaintiffs and defendants.  She had her own firm, The Brown Law Firm, for over 10 years.  Before that she spent five years as Senior Counsel at First Interstate Bank and 12 years in private practice.  She is a graduate of UCLA School of Law (JD, 1978), Michigan State University (MA, 1970), and Ohio Wesleyan University (BA, 1966).

In addition to her experience as a business person with her own firm, she has a wealth of personal experience outside the legal field that gives her a broad perspective and enables her to understand and work with different life experiences and viewpoints.  She was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Thailand (1966 - 1968) where she taught English as a Second Language.  She spent eight more years teaching before going to law school.  She was a member of the Planning Commission for the City of Santa Monica (2000 - 2007) and served as chair in 2004 - 2005.  She also served on the Advisory Board of Sojourn, a shelter for battered women and children (1996 - 2004).

Barbara's litigation and other experience, plus thorough preparation for each case, bring substantive expertise and credibility to her mediations.  Known for her perseverance in pursuing resolution, Barbara has often been told that she is a very perceptive listener who brings intuition, good judgment, and always-needed calm into the room.
